USA Triathlon Collegiate National Championships on April 4-5, which will once again be hosted in Tempe, Ariz., near the Arizona State University campus. Collegiate clubs will have athletes represented in three championship races: a 750-meter swim, 20-kilometer bike, 5-kilometer draft-legal sprint, the traditional 1,500m swim, 36k bike, 10k run championship and the four-person Mixed Team Relay, in which athletes will complete a 250m swim, 5k bike and 1.2k run.

Street Closures & Transit Info. for USAT Collegiate National Championship Triathlon

The USAT Collegiate National Championship Triathlon will occur April 4 and 5. The best way to get to the event is by way of Priest Drive to University Drive or Rural Road/Scottsdale Road to University Drive. From University Drive, there is access to parking in the downtown. To find the best parking and access options for any individual business on Mill Avenue, please call the business. Eastbound and westbound traffic should avoid using Rio Salado Parkway and instead use University Drive or McDowell Road as an alternate.

The following street restrictions and closures have been identified from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. April 4. However others could be put in place to address public safety concerns that arise during the event:

• Northbound Ash Avenue will be closed at the US Airways garage just north of 3rd Street.
• Rio Salado Parkway will be closed in both directions between Mill Avenue and Hardy Drive. All westbound traffic will be forced to turn onto southbound Mill Avenue; eastbound traffic will be forced to turn right onto southbound Hardy Drive. Access Tempe Center for the Arts via Hardy Drive.
• Southbound and northbound Mill Avenue will be closed between Washington Street/Curry Road and Rio Salado Parkway.
• Eastbound Curry Road will be closed between Mill Avenue and College Drive
• Lakeview Drive will be closed in both directions between Washington Street and Curry Drive.

The following street restrictions and closures have been identified from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. April 5:

• Northbound Priest Drive will be restricted to one lane between Rio Salado Parkway and Washington Street.
• Eastbound Loop 202 on-ramp will be closed at Priest Drive.
• Westbound Loop 202 off-ramp will be closed at Priest Drive.
• Southbound Center Parkway will be closed between Washington Street and Loop 202
• Eastbound Washington Street will be closed between Priest Drive and Center Parkway.
• Rio Salado Parkway will be closed in both directions between Priest Drive and Mill Avenue (Tempe Center for the Arts access via Hardy Drive).
• Eastbound and westbound Rio Salado Parkway will be restricted to curb lane only between Mill Avenue and Scottsdale Road.
• Southbound Mill Avenue will be closed between Washington Street and Rio Salado Parkway.
• Northbound Mill Avenue will be restricted to curb lane only between Rio Salado Parkway and Curry Road (traffic will be forced eastbound at Curry Road).
• Eastbound Curry Road will be restricted to curb lane only between Mill Avenue and College Drive.
• Westbound Curry Road will be closed between College Drive and Mill Avenue.
• Southbound College Drive will be closed between Marigold Lane and Curry Road.

The following street restrictions and closures have been identified from 2 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. April 5:

• Northbound Ash Avenue will be closed at the US Airways garage just north of 3rd Street.
• Rio Salado Parkway will be closed in both directions between Mill Avenue and Hardy Drive. All westbound traffic will be forced to turn onto southbound Mill Avenue; eastbound traffic will be forced to turn right onto southbound Hardy Drive. Access Tempe Center for the Arts via Hardy Drive.
• Southbound and northbound Mill Avenue will be closed between Washington Street/Curry Road and Rio Salado Parkway.
• Eastbound Curry Road will be closed between Mill Avenue and College Drive
• Lakeview Drive will be closed in both directions between Washington Street and Curry Drive.


The following transit detours will be in effect on April 4 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. and on April 5 from the start of service until 6:30 p.m.

Route 48 Northbound: Regular route east on Rio Salado Pkwy. to Priest Dr.; south on Priest Dr. to University Dr.; east on University Dr. to Ash Ave.; north on Ash Ave. to 5th St.; east on 5th St. to resume regular route.

Route 48 Southbound: Regular route west on 5th St. to Ash Ave.; south on Ash Ave. to University Dr.; west on University Dr. to Priest Dr.; north on Priest Dr. to Rio Salado Pkwy.; west on Rio Salado Pkwy. to resume regular route.

Earth Eastbound: From Tempe Transportation Center; east on 5th St./Veterans Way to University Dr.; east on University Dr. to Rural Rd.; north on Rural Rd. to resume regular route at Weber Dr.

Earth Westbound: Regular route south on Scottsdale Rd. to Weber Dr.; continue south on Scottsdale Rd. to University Dr.; west on University Dr. to McAllister Ave.; north/west on McAllister Ave./Veterans Way/5th St. to Tempe Transportation Center.
