By now you have seen the mass cancellations, press conferences and media blasts fill your screens. In light of the recent decision by the City of Tempe, and recent national and local event cancellations, we are supporting the City of Tempe’s direction in cancelling all public special events through April by cancelling the remainder of the current 6th Street Market season (March 15, March 22, and April 5).
While we are deeply saddened by this, at the end of the day, it comes down to the safety of the community and we want to ensure our actions reflect the concerns and wellbeing of the public. It was our full intention to move forward with rest of the season, but much can change in a short period of time, and we fully support our city’s difficult decision.
Please know this decision was not taken lightly by City of Tempe leadership or 6th Street Market producers. Many alternative solutions were discussed. Ultimately, it was decided that cancelling would be the best route for the general public and market participants.
While we and many others are disappointed with this cancellation, we intend to move forward with the upcoming 5th season of the market launching this fall 2020 in downtown Tempe. We are working with city officials, local vendors and staff to ensure a successful launch of the new season.
Please refer to the official 6th Street Market website for more information about our upcoming season. Be sure to follow the market’s official social media pages for updates and exciting content.
With full transparency, the artists, vendors and downtown Tempe businesses will suffer from this financial loss. Please highly consider supporting your local nonprofits, community art organizations, local artists, and small businesses. These small businesses rely heavily on your patronage and events like the festival to support their livelihoods.
Thank you for your continued support of the 6th Street Market. Our mission is to connect our community to local artists, produce and food creatives, and we are proud to host an entrepreneurial hub for local Arizona purveyors, makers, artisans and musicians.
