Sun Devil Storyteller: Meet DTA's New Marketing & Multimedia Intern

Hello Everyone!
I'm Mary, and I recently joined Downtown Tempe Authority (DTA) as their Marketing & Multimedia Intern. I’m originally from the rainy evergreen forests of Seattle, Washington (yes, not too far from where Twilight was filmed!) but I moved to Arizona to attend Arizona State University on the vibrant Tempe campus. As a soon-to-be graduate, I’ve spent so much time exploring Downtown Tempe and looking for the best things to do in Tempe—from studying near Mill Avenue to walking by Tempe Town Lake. As I prepare to graduate this May with a degree in Architecture and a Digital Marketing certificate, I am beyond excited to bring my love for this city to the Downtown Tempe Authority team!
During my time at Arizona State University, I have had the amazing opportunity to serve as Vice President of Boss Up at ASU, a minority women empowerment club. Hosting academic, professional, and community workshops has allowed me to actively give back to the ASU community by providing resources, career opportunities, and most importantly, plenty of laughter at our events. I also was an Account Manager and Content Specialist for the Student Media Agency at ASU where I shared student resources, connected with off-campus housing partners, and shared local spots perfect for ASU students. My favorite part was interacting with the students on campus at events and creating User-Generated Content (UGC) with local businesses.
I enjoy bringing creative ideas to life, advocacy, travel, and I'm a big-time foodie (which makes the Tempe food scene a perfect fit for me!). My career goals include working and gaining experience with brands in digital marketing as a creative strategist, in brand management, or as a social media manager in the tech, beauty, or fashion world—with my ultimate goal being running my own creative marketing agency.
During my time here at Downtown Tempe Authority, I'm proud to be a marketing and multimedia intern and work on a campaign that further engages students in making Downtown Tempe their "home away from home," just like it has been mine. I will expand my experience in web development, campaign strategy, social media strategy, new business spotlights, and pre-event promotional support to spotlight new businesses and provide promotional support for all the upcoming events on Mill Avenue.
