5 Spots to Chill at Before an ASU Home Game

Tag: BlogEvents

My coworker decided to show me the ropes around town before my first ever ASU game! Here was our route before arriving at the Wells Fargo Arena.

1. CASA Sunbá

While strolling down Mill Ave, we passed CASA and knew we had to stop by to check out their block party. The music was loud and people were AMPED - making it impossible for even the most non-ASU’er to be unexcited. It was a definitely a maroon monsoon situation, which included a lot of forks up and buckets o’ booze. Definitely a must-do for the party seekers!

2. Devils on College Tailgate

Devils on College is ASU’s free family-friendly pregame event that takes places 3 hours prior to every home football game. They have giant backyard games - like Jenga, Connect 4, mini golf, and more. There are fun inflatable games, a photo booth and selfie station with Giant Sparky, an airbrush tattoo artist, cool giveaways, and the Sun Devil Marketplace street sale. Adding to the fun is a DJ, Pac-12 radio live broadcasting, performances by ASU’s dance teams, and appearances by Sparky!

The abundance of games was a hit. College Ave was literally filled with things to do and people to watch. The Devilettes put on an awesome performance! I also enjoyed seeing Sparky roam around and  Lisa’s giant 8’ X10’ ASU inspired chalk art piece!

3. Devils on Mill Tailgate

Devils on Mill is a free event where ASU Students and surrounding community can get together and get hyped for the home football game that will occur later that night!  There is lots of food, free ASU gear, music, carnival games, a ferris wheel and activities for students to participate in!

The band was great!  There were also  raffles taking place, plus a giant TV and lounge area.

4. Tempe Mission Palms Tailgate

At Tempe Mission Palms, ASU’s Sun Devil spirit (and pitchforks) are out in full force during tailgate festivities, which begin three hours prior to every home game kick-off. In addition to free activities for fans, including games such as cornhole and ladderball, there is live music, featuring local favorites, pumping through the hotel parking lot.

Hans Olson was great! Tempe Mission Palms was also offering tasty food for great prices, plus $5 beer and wine! It should be noted that I enjoyed losing terribly (unlike ASU that night - holla!) at cornhole.
