Meet the Locals: The Local

Tag: BlogBusiness

Background: The Local is an upscale apartment community located in downtown Tempe at 750 S. Ash (corner of University Drive and Ash Avenue). It opened in early 2019, and the multimillion-dollar mixed-use development will soon (fall 2019) house a Whole Foods on the ground level. Ciera Moraga is the community manager at The Local.

Here are some of her favorite spots that she has discovered and loves to visit in the area.

For breakfast, there are so many great options. Matt's Big Breakfast is definitely a favorite and the salami scramble is amazing. I also love Daily Jam. You can really go for it and order the Bananas Foster French Toast or the Chipotle Egg Burrito. Stop in at 1865 Coffee for a cup of nitro cold brew while also supporting the community. 1865 Coffee donates their proceeds to world services and also works with The Salvation Army located next door.

For lunch, you can’t go wrong at Romancing the Bean. They have the best freshly- baked desserts, flavored fresh-brewed iced teas and homemade filled croissants like turkey and swiss that come with a salad for a perfect meal.

If you are looking for a quick and classic local meal go to The Chuckbox for a burger that is cooked up right in front of you. Be prepared though, they are a cash-only establishment.

The Perfect Pear is also a great lunch spot, serving tasty and unique items like the Peanut Coconut Curry Quinoa Bowl and tons of great salads.

For dinner or grabbing happy hour, both Postino's Annex and La Bocca Pizzeria + Wine Bar never disappoint. They have happy hour specials, delicious food and a wide selection of drink options.

If you are in need of a sweet treat, Slickables is the spot to visit. You can create your own ice cream sandwich with their house-made cookies and ice cream, and the combinations are limitless. My personal favorite is their brownie-cookie combination.

For an entertainment experience go and enjoy a film at the Harkin's Valley Art Theater. It is the only theater in Arizona that still has only a single silver screen and they show independent films every week.

There’s no need to travel far to get your hair done, visit Juut Salon and Spa for all of your self-care needs. It feels like a luxurious escape from the hustle and bustle.

And of course, the best place to live downtown Tempe and enjoy all of these wonderful spots is The Local! The apartments are centrally located, pet-friendly and offer amenities like a bar and arcade lounge, a resort-style pool with cabana deck, fitness studios, a top-floor terrace and a coffee bar.
