Let's Honor Veterans and Active-Duty Service Members in Downtown Tempe!
Downtown Tempe Authority, in partnership with City of Tempe, recently launched a new military tribute banner program called Elevate Our Heroes. We are proud to celebrate and honor veterans and active-duty members through this program, which is only one of two in the state of Arizona.
The program allows community members, businesses, or organizations to sponsor banners that honor a military member, living or deceased, local or not, through a full-color banner displayed in Downtown Tempe. Each banner can be customized with a name, branch of service, and official military photo of the service person. Banners will be displayed on Downtown Tempe’s iconic lamp posts in November 2021 and November 2022. After November 2022, banners will be returned to the sponsoring members or businesses as a keepsake.
“We are excited to launch a program where families, friends, coworkers, or businesses can honor and celebrate a hero in their life or the community," said Kate Borders, Executive Director of Downtown Tempe Authority. "This program is a living tribute in Downtown Tempe to recognize and honor the brave military heroes who served, are serving, or have given their lives for our country.”
The Elevate Our Heroes Banner Program was made possible through ongoing collaboration and partnership between Downtown Tempe Authority, the City of Tempe, and the Tempe City Council. This program was presented to and received full support from Tempe City Council in June. “The military heroes in our community deserve to be honored and recognized in a special way,” said Tempe Councilmember Robin Arredondo-Savage. “Their service to our country will be on full display in downtown Tempe as we show our gratitude through this unique banner program.”
Orders are currently being accepted and space is limited. There are only 115 banners available so we encourage people to order early. In addition to sponsoring a banner, donations are also being accepted. All donations go directly to the program and help remove financial barriers from families or friends who want to honor a hero in their life.
